Note to self (1)
pag.13, Story , McKee
when storytelling goes bad, the result is decadence
flawed and false storytelling is forced to substitute spectacle for substance, trickery for truth
Notes to self:
…this seems to be a description of the clowning industry, as i perceive it.
Dilettante theatre
Two days ago, Mar took us to a play (the opening of the Maraton, that celebrates 70 years since Casa de cultură a studenţilor was set up), called Năpasta, the only drama that Caragiale wrote. I remember that I read it when I was 13 and it seemed to be rather complicated to be set, because of its psychological plot. I still believe that it’s very hard to direct Năpasta so that the audience won’t feel a bit uncomfortable nowadays.
The actors were young, perhaps amateurs and they tried to make a good impression, but the feeling I got is that the play got on the scene without enough rehearsals. One of the actors, playing Gheorghe, forgot some of the lines and the girl was too pathetic with her act. I am sorry to say that it wasn’t the best way to spend my evening.
